If you love all things nature and wildlife then there's no better place to be than the Cairngorms.
It couldn't be easier to get out and about to explore from The Shelter Stone, and you don't even need to get in the car! The Aviemore Orbital can be reached on foot, just a few minutes up the road. From there you can walk a circular route around Aviemore or join up with a number of other routes including the Speyside Way, heading north.
Just looking up as you walk through the trees, you'll spot all sorts of lichen and fungi on the trees. Look down and you might see butterflies and flowers.
If you fancy a day out, you could head over to Loch Garten Nature Reserve, where there's loads to see and do. The visitor centre has lots of interesting displays and interactive activities for the kids. Have a go of the VR headset, but avoid if you're scared of heights as you'll find your self high in the trees with the squirrels! You can wander round the forest and you might catch a glimpse of osprey, red squirrels, woodpeckers and lizards. You can also join guided forest walks from the centre if you want a little help identifying the birds and trees. The reserve is open all year, and the Nature Centre is open every day between April and mid-October.
For something a bit different you could head to Glenmore and meet Britain's only free ranging Reindeer herd, or to Rothiemurchus to pet a highland Cow on their Hairy Coo Safari!
