This last week we have seen the devastating affects of wildfires in our beautiful park.

While it still isn't known what caused the initial fire (whether man made or natural) we can most certainly see the disastrous affects it's left behind as it's raged across the land. Large areas of our beautiful woodland and hillside have been ravaged. Reports indicate that approximately 6km have been affected, around Glenmore, Strathnethy and Abernethy. The Cairngorms are home to thousands of species, some of which are only found here. It'll take a long time for the area to recover.

From 1 April to 30 September each year, fires and barbecues are banned in the National Park under the Cairngorms National Park Fire Management Byelaw (2025). Please don't set one, no matter how tempting. Wait until you get home and have a BBQ instead, or just have a traditional picnic when out and about. It's not worth the risk and if you're caught breaking the byelaw it could result in a fine of up to £500.
