We popped along recently to have a go and had a great time. It’s a great family friendly activity, with people of all ages taking part. At the start of the session the kids looked like Bambi on ice and were reluctant to let go of the edge, but by the end they were careering around. Although stopping seemed to be a different challenge altogether! Dangling stars, fairy lights and Christmas songs added to the atmosphere and we all had a great time.
If anyone’s a little less confident on their skates, they can borrow a skating aid. Each one had it’s own name tag - our favourite was polar bear Lord Coldemort. Lots of little people were happily pushing these around the rink. Some adults too!
The ice rink is open 7 days (1pm-9pm) until April. It's located in the MacDonald Resort and is walkable from The Shelter Stone. Each session lasts an hour and skate hire is included in the session cost. We’d recommend leaving bags at home or in the car as you aren’t permitted to skate with them. It’s also advisable to wear gloves, although we did have to discard our coats once we got going. Further details can be found here.
We'd certainly recommend having a go. Happy skating.
